If a black cat crosses your path, you’re probably not going to have a very good day. You could try backing up, or taking an alternate route to your intended destination, but it’s doubtful this will have any effect. Black cats are highly devious creatures, and most of them will have spent the whole morning wandering around the neighborhood in a maze-like fashion, much like Billy used to do in old Family Circus cartoons. One way or another, your two paths shall meet, and you’ll have to start running from out-of-control snowplows that appear out of nowhere and launch themselves in your direction.
Most of the bad luck connected to these felines comes from the traditional belief that they were witch’s familiars. This is only partly true. The black cats are actually the masters, as all cats are, and the witches the dutiful servants. They use their sinister magical powers to confound the minds of men, using big eyes and pitiful meows to convince humans to give them a saucer of milk. Little can be done to protect oneself from these demonic wiles, and to this day they still use their supernatural gifts on people. Stay out of their way – black cats are agents of calamitous doom.
